Actor Terry Crews is probably best known for his role as Julius on the poplar sitcom, Everybody Hates Chris.  In the show, Crews was a strict but loving father who was characterized by his extreme cheapness. However, even before appearing in the sitcom, Crews had already established himself with fans on the big screen who had seen him in films such as White Chicks and Soul Plane where he shows audiences just how funny he could be. Crews knack for finding the perfect balance between funny and tough is often what have left fans impressed with his performances.

By 2010, Crews decided it was time for him to reveal another side of himself to the public. Crews and his family agreed to shoot a reality series for BET which followed the interactions and day-to-day occurrences within the family.  The show, The Family Crews, premiered in February 2010 and lasted for two seasons before being permanently cancelled in 2011.  Although the show was intended to provide viewers with a chance to learn more about Crews and his family,  two seasons simply wasn’t enough to accomplish that goal.  In the years since the show, Crews has made numerous on-screen appearances; however, his personal life is not topically discussed.  Although many of the more intimate details of Crews’ life remain unknown to the public, here are five things you should know about Terry Crews.

5. Terry Crews played professional football.

Terry Crews was a standout football player during his time at Western Michigan University.  He entered the NFL draft in 1991 and was selected in the 11th round by the Los Angeles Rams.  Crews played professional football for six years before retiring in 1997.  Although Crews deeply loves the game of football, he spoke negatively of the NFL during an interview earlier this year.  Crews referred to the NFL as a “cult.”  Crews went on to clarify his statement by saying: “The NFL is a cult, because you’ve been looking at this motto and this logo for your whole life and you believe in it and you’re like ‘They wouldn’t do anything to hurt me. They never would.’ And, uh oh, maybe they would.”  His statements came in response to a lawsuit which included 500 NFL players who accused team doctors and trainers of prescribing medicine without properly relaying the side effects.

4. Terry Crews supports feminism.

Terry Crews is the father of three daughters, so it shouldn’t come as a shock that he has an interest women’s rights.  However, during a recent interview Crew’s made it very clear that he wholeheartedly supports feminism by stating: “I want to be clear that feminism is not saying “women are better than men.” That’s not what’s going on. What it is is that we’re talking about is gender equality, true gender equality… but the problem is that men have always felt like they’re more valuable.. I have been that guy where I felt I was more valuable than my wife and kids….We’re battling a mindset.. It’s like cutting a tree down by the leaves — it just grows back… The tree needs to come down and nobody’s getting at the stump and the stump is a mindset that people feel they’re more valuable than each other. And that’s what I’m attacking.” Crews’ statements were met with positive feedback from those who feel that women and their rights are often overlooked in our society.
