Chris Wilder looks set to return to Sheffield United with Paul Heckingbottom on the brink of being sacked as Blades manager.
Heckingbottom’s side are bottom of the Premier League table having lost 11 of their opening 14 games of the season following promotion last campaign.
They were thrashed 5-0 by fellow top-flight strugglers Burnley at the weekend in what seems to be the final straw for their boss.
And talkSPORT understands that Wilder is the leading contender to replace him as he eyes a return to Bramall Lane.
So ahead of his potential comeback, talkSPORT.com takes a look at his record for the club and why he left two years ago…
Wilder’s Sheffield United record
Wilder was in charge of Sheffield United for almost five years and is considered one of the club's best-ever managers.

He managed a total of 227 games, winning 106, drawing 44 and losing 77.
Wilder became boss in May 2016 when the Blades were in League One, taking them all the way up the divisions to reach the Premier League for the first time in 12 years in 2019.
The 56-year-old’s achievement at the club saw him beat Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp to the LMA Manager of the Year award for that season.
And the success didn’t stop after that with Wilder leading Sheffield United to a ninth-placed finish during their first season back in the top-flight in 2020.

Why did Wilder leave?
However, things took a turn for the worse a season later as Wilder’s ‘overlapping centre-backs’ tactics were less successful.
United made the worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign, not winning a single game until January in what was their 18th match of the season.
The Blades were bottom of the Premier League in March, sitting 13 points clear from safety with only ten games left.
And that is when the club decided to relieve Wilder of his duties and seek a new boss.
Only Heckingbottom and Slavisa Jokanovic have been United managers since then and it now seems Wilder will be returning.
The club didn’t seem to trust Wilder to turn things around three years ago, but they are now putting their faith in him to do so this season.
