It’s hard to believe, but more than three years after Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced their split, the former couple still hasn’t finalized their divorce. While the negotiations continue to move forward behind closed doors with a private judge, their custody case is back in a Los Angeles County court.

According to The Blast, Jolie filed details of her and Pitt’s child custody evaluation on March 3rd for their six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox – but indicated that it provided limited information. The couple has requested that the details remain private and were filed under seal, which means the public will not have access to the evaluation.

A child custody evaluation is mostly used in cases where there are “concerns about child abuse, substance abuse, or mental health problems.” Before a custody agreement is finalized, the judge wants to dig deeper into both parents’ mental health and parenting practices.

Fans may remember that when Jolie and Pitt first split in September 2016, she accused him of being abusive towards their oldest son Maddox. However, after a criminal investigation, Pitt was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. Maddox is now 18-years-old and a college freshman, so the custody agreement is only about the five youngest kids.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars have been trying to privately settle their case for more than three years. The latest filing is the first time the former couple’s case has been in court in more than a year. Pitt and Jolie were able to reach a temporary custody agreement in late 2018, but a final arrangement has yet to be reached.

In addition to custody and child support, the former couple also needs to divide their large fortune, which includes a $60 million winery, Miraval, that they bought in 2011. Insiders say that Pitt and Jolie intended to pass the winery down to their children, but that most likely changed after the split.

Angelina Jolie also revealed in an interview last fall that she is looking forward to living abroad, but she will have to wait until her youngest children – 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – turn 18 because of Brad Pitt.

“I would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as my children are 18,” she wrote in an email interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “Right now I’m having to base where their father chooses to live [Los Angeles].”
